One of the best ways you can help your heart remain strong and healthy is to sustain it with the nutrients from fresh fruit and vegetable juicing recipes. The following ingredients, when integral to your recipes for juicing at home, can boost your heart health in a variety of ways. Read on to learn more!

Tomato
Tomatoes have many health benefits, including reducing oxidative stress, providing anti-inflammatory agents, and they help in treating hypertension. But their specific benefits to heart health are awesome! Tomatoes have been found to inhibit platelet aggregation in your arteries and they are also a great source of “good” HDL-cholesterol. Some studies have been found to increase these HDL levels by up to 15.2% on a tomato rich diet. The bottom line: tomatoes must find their way into your juicing recipes for heart health.

Cucumber
Cucumbers are great for reducing your body’s triglyceride levels. This is beneficial to your heart health because high levels of triglycerides can lead to an increased risk in heart disease. Cucumbers also contain sterols, which may help the heart by reducing “bad” LDL cholesterol. There might not be a better heart healthy ingredient for your juicing recipes than these green veggies!

Celery
Celery is not generally thought of as an ingredient for healthy juicing recipes, but will be after you consider this: Celery is often used as a treatment for high blood pressure and it also helps to detoxify carcinogens from our environment. Mark Houston, M.D., has found that his patients who eat four sticks of celery a day have seen modest reductions in their blood pressure — about 6 points systolic and 3 points diastolic!

Apple
A recent study by Florida State University researchers found that eating apples daily appeared to lower levels of cholesterol and two other markers associated with plaques and inflammation in artery walls. So it seems the adage “An apple a day, keeps the Doctor away” has some truth to it!

Cilantro
Studies show that cilantro increases HDL cholesterol and reduces LDL cholesterol (the bad kind!).
